I’m a Professional

I spent the morning at two photo shoots! First, some family portraits for a coworker of Anna’s; then, some photojournalism for the Junior League of Pasadena, whose ladies are painting the cafeteria of Madison Elementary school this morning. At my readers’ request, here’s my professional attire! I love it, Mom!

Now, an afternoon of tidying, cleaning, scouring, packing, putting away, fixing, mopping, scrubbing, etc.!

Looky Here, I Accomplished Something

I finally buckled down and worked on my river incision simulation today. We decided it would be nice to do a second simulation, and by golly, it sort of works! “Height” refers to the height of the channel this experimental river carved in its bed of sand; “width” is the width of the river. You might notice that the width isn’t such a good fit — but hey! who cares. It wasn’t *supposed* to fit. The river’s cross-section isn’t rectangular, like my model assumes it is, and the guy who did the experiments measured the width at the top of the channel, where it’s widest — so it sort of makes sense that the predicted width is too small. Or something like that.

I’m still making slow but steady progress on that back handspring. I have just a couple more weeks to get it right so I sure hope I hurry up! I bought some very professional-looking wrist braces that have made it possible to work for the full hour and fifteen minutes of class without my wrists hurting; I think they were a good investment.

Surprise Package

Ben and I got a special surprise package from Orangeburg today. We opened a big flat box to find two white shirts … with the “Brantley Photography” logo on them! At first I couldn’t believe that Lands’ End (the orignal source of the shirts) did custom logos, but then Ben and I realized that Mom embroidered them BY HAND. How cool is that?!?!

Thanks Mom!!!

the Beach

We went to the beach “one last time” yesterday. About an hour south of here, there’s a town — Huntington Beach — that allows dogs on a stretch of shoreline. Chaco got to play in the waves and play with the other dogs. It was fun to watch.

More Pictures!

I got to take baby pictures today! Heather invited me over to photograph her newly expanded family of four; welcome Ryan! He’s a preemie, so he’s tiny and he sleeps almost all the time, which meant no shots of his beautiful blue eyes — but no crying, either! (He didn’t even spit up on me, despite the fact that I am a baby-barf-black-hole.) I’d love some comments on the pictures.

Then I got to go biking, and then I got to photograph the Caltech Figure Skating Team exhibition. It’s been a fun day.

Prefrosh!

My youngest sister, Kim, visited us Monday – Wednesday on a college visit to Caltech. I would love to report that we had tons of fun, but mostly we audited classes! We *did* make it to frisbee class (in which she was a star newbie) and Saladang, at least!

On her way home, the poor girl got stuck in Denver. They cancelled the second leg of her flight! Instead of transferring the passengers to another airline, they put them up at a hotel for the night. However, hotels do not rent rooms to 15 year olds; Kim got stuck on the airport floor! She got a flight the next morning, but after half an hour in the air, it had to go BACK to DIA because mechanical problems! She eventually made it home safe and sound, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she decides that a college within driving distance of home would be nice.
