Tonight I made Napoleans for dessert. They came out much better than last time, when I managed to screw up frozen pastry sheets. “This time they don’t taste like rubber,” said Ben. “They also aren’t as heavy as rubber this time.”

Today, I also (1) bought a new power cord for Frosty (my laptop), (2) found a Mountain Hardware Windstopper fleece on sale 1/2 off, and (3) got some schoolwork done.
I can’t decide what to do this weekend — homework, housework, or video editing. I think maybe I’ll just play soccer and edit video; that sounds like the most fun. Probably I’ll do all three.
Another shot from our girls’ modeling night: (I posted a whole suite of pictures for critique on the Fred Miranda People Forum; please have a look (and leave a comment!).

I went to the job fair today. This required getting up early, drying my hair, and wearing a skirt — a considerable sacrifice when you’ve got a 9am class.
If you’re not a computer scientist, career fairs stink. Nobody but national labs hires geologists; instead, they give you sympathetic look, like “I’m sorry you chose such an obscure topic to be interested in,” and they ask you if you can program. Which I can, sort of, but I’d like to find a job where I can use SOME of what I learned in school :)
Ben and I spent several hours tonight going over mortgage finances and planning a trip to Boulder to look at houses. The nitty-gritty’s kind of a pain, but I’m excited about all the changes coming up.

Today Ben and I enjoyed a special treat: chocolate covered gourmet strawberries. They are one of my favorite things in the whole wide world, I think. MMmmmm!!!!

I put iTunes on shuffle this afternoon while I did homework, and my recording of “An Cailin Fionn”, by James Galway, popped up. It’s the song that Kim played at our wedding, and the recording that we used as a background for the wedding slide show we put together to share with friends who couldn’t come to the wedding (or who could come, and are just unusually patient with us and are willing to watch it more than once).
Chaco’s a big fan of the slide show because he’s in it, and he loves to watch himself on TV. Even though I’m just sitting here at my computer, and I’m not in front of the TV, he barked and ran to the screen immediately when the song started to play! It wasn’t the first song I listened to, and not even the first James Galway song, so there’s little chance that he just got excited by the sound of any old song. Maybe I’ll perform some experiments and see just how much he does recognize.
We have a precocious dog :)

This evening we went over to the DeWeese’s for dinner and dessert. MMMmmm was that tasty! When Mom’s cooking isn’t available, that’s the next best thing :)
I actually made some progress on my experimental prosposal today … yay!
Here’s one of Zena from this weekend. It kind of reminds me of a scene from the Matrix. What do you think?

[Edit] I adjusted the contrast in the baby-only picture. How do you like it now? The old one is available here.]
This evening, our friends Rick and Noelle let me take pictures of their 8-week-old son Corbin. He is ADORABLE. Afterwards, we went out for dinner — and I’d already eaten, so I got to hold him a bunch :) And then I had chocolate souffle cake. Doesn’t get much better than that.
All babies are cute, but I believe that Corbin above-average cute. More pictures to come, of course!
