Do you ever feel like this? Some of the stuff on Fred Miranda is amazing. That photo is great.

Supermarket Saver

Good news: You know how when you use your Vons card at the supermarket, the cashier tells you how much you saved? I hit 53% today. I am a bargain genius.

Bad news: I’m not used to cooking for one. I chopped up the usual fondue plate (a pound of strawberries and two apples, all on sale of course) … and ate it all by myself with a goodly puddle of melted chocolate. I do not feel so good.

Home Alone Again

Today was mostly fun. I took Chaco biking in the morning; we are both out of shape! Then I did a little bit of work before soccer practice with the Earthquakes. Now, I desparately need a shower, and then I’ll probably eat some more chicken parmesan and watch another chick flick!

Update: Chaco and I just finished watching Two Weeks Notice. He paid attention to the whole thing (Chaco loves TV), despite the fact that the film contained no dogs — except, possibly, for Hugh Grant. We only give it one paw up.

Home Alone

Today was my first full day of being alone. I went to school in the morning and set up a digital elevation map of the Death Valley Fault Zone I’m going to be working on. I did errands in the afternoon, including a run to Home Depot for more flower boxes. Pictures of that to come.

I cooked chicken parmesan al a Sam for dinner. It was tasty!

After dinner, Chaco and I watched “Maid in Manhattan”, a cheesy chick-flick also starring a dog named Rufus. We split a bag of microwave kettle corn and snuggled on the couch.

Spring Break!

Spring Break!

I’m not really sure that graduate students get spring break, but I was in dire need of one so I took one anyway!

First, Becky flew out and we all (me, Becky, Ben, and Chaco) spent three days in Havasu Canyon. Here’s a glimpse of the paradise that awaits you at the bottom. Pay special attention to Chaco’s tongue! Chaco’s tongue has many expressions. There’s big tongue, which flops around when he’s been running around. Little tongue sticks its tiny head out when he’s sleepy, and little side tongue droops the same way but out the side his mouth — even rarer. But this tongue — sinusoidal tongue — is so rare that it wasn’t discovered until just weeks ago. It appears very infrequently at strange times.

After Havasu, Becky flew home and Ben and I went up to Mammoth. I read a lot of articles in preparation for my field work with Brian and I skied a little, too. We cooked dinner and enjoyed the cable TV, too.

Ben’s birthday was yesterday and he opened presents before we left. Chaco really likes to help open presents, although sometimes he grabs the present instead of just the paper.

Tonight around dinnertime, Ben left for Prague :( He’ll be back in a week. Go Caltech Programming Team!

prettypixel’s debut

It’s here…

www.prettypixel.net

It’s not finished, though. Pardon the missing pictures, broken links, and puny number of galleries. I’ll add more when I’ve got access to my desktop again.

I skied this afternoon and had lots of fun!
