Directions: These dunes are located in the middle of Death Valley National Park near Stovepipe Wells. They are probably accessible from the south directly off of Highway 190, but we entered from the east. Just to the east of the ninety-degree kink in Highway 190, turn north onto an unnamed road towards Scotty's Castle. After 2.4 miles, turn left onto an unmarked dirt road leading to the dunes. On our visit, the road was closed at the second gate, so we had to hike about three moderately strenuous miles to reach the tallest crest. The hike is probably shorter from the end of the dirt road.
