Height: ~750 feet
Description: I visited these dunes while I was on vacation with
my family several years before I started researching sand dunes. These are great dunes to visit for fun because they're not as oppressively hot as dunes in California or Nevada. Visit the NPS's website for more information (the dunes were designated a National Park and Preserve in 2000).
Directions: These dunes are located 35 miles northeast of the small town of Alamosa, CO. Here's a map and here are directions from the National Park Service.
Booming: These dunes didn't boom when I visited them, but I heard from the park geologist that they do occasionally boom. I haven't procured a sample to test for burping.
